"Daughter's fall"

About: Borders General Hospital / Accident & Emergency Borders General Hospital / Acute Assessment Unit Scottish Ambulance Service / Emergency Ambulance

(as a parent/guardian),

My daughter  fell from her horse, landed on her neck/head,ended up in A&E on what you would expect to be a quiet Sunday afternoon.

It was not quiet, it is unbelievable the amount of people needing attention for all sorts of injuries etc.

And during all this from the paramedics to the nurses,  consultants and doctors and, porters, how they all go about their  jobs so professionally and with so much compassion and patience  is unbelievable, oh and a smile on their faces!

Yes everything  took a while because it was Sunday and it was very busy, and an acute shortage of beds, but the consultant would not let my daughter go home, after xrays and scans etc came back ok, as she was not right on her feet,.  and a bed was found..

We cant thank them enough for the the service they are providing at A&E @ the BGH

Dear Zik,

Thank you for taking the time to share your kind words with us on CareOpinion. I am sorry to hear that your daughter had a fall but I am glad to hear that she is ok. It must have been quite a distressing time for you and your daughter. It is always nice to have patients and families send in kind comments but it is really encouraging to have comments of an understanding and supportive nature. There are days, particularly Sundays, where the ambulance service and emergency departments are very very busy and for you to be in your own crisis but still understand that everyone was doing their best is really encouraging. I thank you for that.

I wish you and your daughter all the best and I hope that she is on the road to a full recovery.

Kind Regards

Dear Zik,

Thank you for getting in touch like this. I hope your daughter is getting back to full fitness.

Sundays, as you noticed, are very busy in our Emergency Department, however we have a system in place to ensure that patients attending who have the most immediate clinical need are given priority, are given the care/assessment they immediately need and that this is achieved within agreed timescales where this is humanly possible!

That said, having worked with our ED team for almost 3 years now, I am aware that the departmnent's greatest strength along with their clinical skill is the manner in which they the go about their business and I am delighted, as I am sure they will be when they see your post, that their care for your daughter has made such a positive impact upon you when reflecting on your daughter's experience.

Kind regards

Ed
