"Negative experience"

About: Eastbourne District General Hospital / Accident and emergency Sussex Partnership NHS Foundation Trust / Working age mental health care (inpatient)

(as a service user),

I came into a&e feeling low and having thoughts to kill myself. I was seen by a member of staff who I found to be really rude, aggressive and didn’t listen to what I had to say. It’s the first time I have ever spoken about how I feel and felt this nurse didn’t listen and spoke over me. In the end I gave up I found their attitude appalling. Would not ever recommend coming to a&e.

Thank you for taking the time to leave us feedback about your recent attendance in the Emergency Department at Eastbourne District General Hospital; we are very concerned to read that at what must have been a very difficult and upsetting time, you did not receive the positive and assuring standard of care we work hard to provide for all patients. Please accept our apologies for the disappointment and distress this experience caused you, as this is not how we wish for patients to feel. We would very much welcome the opportunity to learn more about your visit, and see what we could do differently in the future to avoid another patient having the same experience as you; if you feel able to, please contact our Patient Advice and Liaison Service (PALS) on 01323 435886 or you can email them at esh-tr.palse@nhs.net if that is easier for you.

In the meantime, we very much hope you are feeling better in yourself and have been able to source some assistance and support from your GP in managing your low mood as part of a recovery pathway. We wish you all the very best for your future health and well-being.
