"Orthopedics and a motorcycle accident"

About: Scottish Ambulance Service / Emergency Ambulance Victoria Hospital / Accident & Emergency Victoria Hospital / Trauma & orthopaedics

(as the patient),

I was involved in an RTA and broke both legs and my right arm. The ambulance took me to the Vic in Kirkcaldy. The care I received from the paramedics was excellent.

Once in A&E I was knocked out while they sorted my limbs and was then taken to ward 33.

The nurses and support staff on the ward were excellent, I could not have been cared for better. I was operated on and all three limbs were repaired. My deepest thanks to Mr Warmsley and his team for working his magic. I woke up on Wednesday with no pain and feeling a little groggy. Over the next 9 days I went from strength to strength with the support of the staff on ward 33. 12 days after being admitted I was allowed home.

I can't speak highly enough of the staff I encountered at every stage from my initial admittance and throughout my stay.

The only area that was wasn’t great was the quality of the food. Occasionally it was OK but generally it wasn’t great, in fact I started ordering the snack packs as the sandwiches were generally better than the hot food.

Thanks again to everyone I came in contact with at the Victoria Hospital in Kirkcaldy, not just from me but all my family and friends, especially my wife.

Dear gifter78.

Thank you so much for taking the time to share your experience on Care Opinion. I was sorry to hear of your accident but pleased that the Scottish Ambulance Service were able to assist you on that day.

Major trauma causes significant harm to patients in Scotland. The Scottish Government has set up the Scottish Trauma Network with the aim of improving the care provided to those patients. Along with our other NHS colleagues, we are have made major trauma a priority and are putting a lot of work into improving the care that we provide to victims of major trauma.

Whilst we welcome all feedback, it is always pleasing to receive positive feedback and read examples of where our work has benefitted our patients. I would really like to pass on your thanks to the ambulance staff who cared for you on that day but would need a few more details to allow me to do this. This is just so that I can identify your case. If you are able to provide some more details you can contact me at martinesposito@nhs.net.

In the mean time, on behalf of the Scottish Ambulance Service, I would like to wish you well with your recovery.

Take care.

Martin.

Dear gifter78

Thank you for taking the time to post on Care Opinion.

I was sorry to read about your accident and your awful injuries, that must have been a worrying time for you and your family.

It was lovely to read your comments about Mr Walmsley and the staff who looked after you throughout your stay. It sounds like they have made a horrible situation easier to bear and I will be sure to pass on your post to them.

I am sorry that you didn't enjoy the food so much and I will share your feedback with our catering staff.

I hope that you are now well on the way to recovery.

Kind regards

Gill
