"Surgical Ward was very good with lovely staff, I..."

About: Trafford General Hospital

What I liked

Staff helpful

Room was clean

Food was nice (bar breakfast)

What could be improved

Kept running out if cups so couldn't drink tea!

When food was ordered they often lost who was having what so ended up short on chosen food.

Toilet in surgical ward stinks! Problem with drains.

TV should be FREE is immoral the amount being charged! (£15 for two days!)

Toast for breakfast was of poor quality, dry and hard to swallow. The old people really struggled! I'm young and found it hard to chew and digest.

Anything else?

Sort the organisation of food out please!

Sort toilet out in ward 11 B1

Give the poor bored patients free TV it's a disgrace that they should pay, it's hard enough in there with nothing to do to take advantage of this situation.

Think more about entertainment in general! People sleeping because bored then awake half the night.

Some really nice staff, makes a change!

Get some decent bread! Something soft and of better quality.

I am writing to thank you for taking the time to post your comments and we acknowledge your concerns. The Trust is always committed to addressing any areas of weaknesses in its services and listening to the needs and concerns of our patients and relatives is an important factor in our continuing commitment to improving the services which we provide.

Unfortunately the Surgical Unit have had a problem with paper cups and have hopefully now resolved this. Changes have been implemented, which will hopefully make a difference to the amount of cups being used on the ward.

Your comments have been noted with regards to the ordering of food on the ward. We can confirm the times the ward order their food has been changed and we hope to now see an improvement. This will be monitored closely by the matron and she confirms this will be discussed at the next ward meeting.

Regrettably the toilet in B bay is an ongoing problem at present and we can confirm that our Estates Department are currently looking into the problem.

With regards to the TV system, like many NHS Trusts we provide the Hospedia service to patients which offers competitive rates for both TV and telephone. This service is much more cost effective to the NHS than providing an individual free TV service to each patient. That said, certain patients do meet the criteria to receive free TV service eg: patients who are in hospital for a significant length of time or patients over a certain age, we also have communal TV’s in some lounge area’s on wards that are available to watch free of charge.
