"Efficient Service"

About: St Richard's Hospital

I initially attended the

A & E department after it was suggested that I should attend by the 111 Dr I had contacted the night before. The wait in the department was very long but the triage nurse apologized and assured me that I had not lost my place in the queue which was re-assuring. Seen by doctor who was pleasant and referred me to the eye clinic.

I was surprised to be called in the following day. The triage nurse was very pleasant but I would have liked more explanation as to what was being requested. I knew after she had taken my pressures that they would be quite high but I have thick corneas which lowers the risk of pressure. When I explained this to her she made no comment. I should mention that I am a very anxious patient and I like to be re-assured and I also would like a full explanation of any procedures that are carried out on me. The registrar who then saw me was again very pleasant and he did explain the procedures to me fully and also was very re-assuring which I appreciated. I was told that everything appeared to be OK but if I experienced an increase in flashes or floaters in my eye to get in touch with them immediately. I was impressed by the speed of the appointment and all the staff were very pleasant although it was very evident that in the A & E department they were being stretched to the limit.
