"No vulnerable adult should be left without care"

About: London North West University Healthcare NHS Trust

(as a relative),

I am disgusted by the care my relative ‘occasionally’ receives Southall district nurses. Some days there is no response from the community nurses at all or they tell him to stay in bed for days so that they can come out for a dressing change to his sacrum. The hardly ever attend or when they do say they will have to come back with another member of staff due to him being bed bound and being unable to reposition him alone (they don’t come back). Two weekends in a row now he has been left without dressings on his sacrum due to them coming off from being soiled and no one can be contacted to re apply them on days they should attend! I personally am very angry at this situation and no vulnerable adult should be left without the care they need. Is there a safeguarding team I can contact and actually speak to someone, rather than an answer phone?

I am very sorry to read this, but thank you for letting us know.

We cannot investigate or help you without some more information, so please contact the PALS team on 0208 869 5118 or LNWH-tr.PALS@nhs.net. Your call may go to voicemail if they are on another call, but they will get back to you.

Meanwhile, I will pass your feedback on to the safeguarding and district nursing teams.

I hope we can address your concerns quickly and I am sorry that you and your relative have had this experience.

Best wishes

Sue

The best way to raise a safeguarding concern is with the Ealing Adults Safeguarding Team. https://www.ealing.gov.uk/info/201082/care_and_support_for_adults/147/safeguarding_adults_at_risk/1 Their direct number is 0208 825 9401. I tried them this morning and got straight through to someone who was keen to help.

Please do also contact PALS on 0208 869 5118 or LNWH-tr.PALS@nhs.net as we want to investigate and help with your district nursing concerns.

Best wishes

I understand that you have now spoken with the team and that they are planning a reassessment and multidisciplinary team meeting this week. I hope this will address all your concerns.

Thanks again for letting us know about the difficulties you were experiencing.

Best wishes

Sue
