What I liked
It looked clean...
The sandwiches were good.
What could be improved
I was at an event at the Spinal Unit yesterday and a number of things must be raised about this brand new hospital:
1 - the signposting is appalling - the Spinal Unit is not even mentioned on the main gate sign. When it was found eventually, we parked outside the signed department only to find all doors locked and a hand-written note saying 'Ambulances only - go to main entrance' but giving no indication where this was...It transpired the entrance was 400m away and up a hill - not easy in a wheelchair when carrying things. I'm only glad it was not raining. On the way, we passed a sign for Emergency Maternity services where all doors were again locked - madness. Why put signs up where you cannot get in?
2 - footpaths - at least two, expensive, new, level footpaths along the side of the building lead to nowhere but a concrete block - why build a footpath to nowhere?
3 - doors in the spinal unit - the main entrance doors to the Spinal Unit require a bell to be pushed and then doors to pushed open if/when someone responds - neither of these is possible if you have a high level spinal injury as many patients of this unit do - more madness.
I could go on about foot-operated bins in the disabled loos in a unit of people who cannot use their legs...
I was only there a few hours but left shaking my head how such a new building could be signed off with so many avoidable and stupid errors.
