"Large Polyp Removal"

About: St Marks Hospital (Harrow)

I read about the Prof and the surgeon's work with Taser to remove large polyps without the need for a stoma.(I had been told in Liverpool that a stoma was the only option) I contacted both and they agreed to treat me. The 1st Taser treatment removed 80% of the polyp but unfortunately the remaining 20% could not be removed with Taser due to scar tissue. Took the Prof's advice to forge ahead with an anterior resection. The original Taser treatment mean that the surgeon and his team could remove the remainder of the polyp and the scar tissue using keyhole surgery and no stoma ! A huge thank you to the Professor, the surgeon and their teams for changing my life.. their pioneering treatment, dedication and patient care is unequalled. I suffered from diarrhoea for 15 years which was caused by a 12cm polyp..my surgery was a week ago and i've just returned home to Liverpool and i can poo !! normally !!

I was looked after by the amazing staff in Frederick Salmon South..it was more like a holiday than a recovery..special thanks to staff and all the other amazing nurses. Unfortunately I was there in the middle of the 37c heatwave-no problem-us 4 patients in B bay pulled the visitors chairs into the bathroom lowered the shower and bathed our feet in cool water while resting. If you're in need of a pick me up request the gospel singing nurses.- the best tonic ever !

St Marks - you and your staff are an inspiration to the NHS..4 patients checked out of Frederick Salmon South in tears ...we didn't want to leave !!

I was sent home with a pack to monitor my progress, this included an I pad, thermometer,

blood pressure reader..I have to submit my info everyday on the I pad including number of toilet visits, amount drunk and eaten and how I am feeling for the next 2 weeks...tremendous after care!

Dear Kerstin

Thank you so much for your feedback about the care and treatment you have received from the St Mark's team as well as the staff on Frederick Salmon South.

It is so pleasing to hear how well you were looked after and how well your treatment went to the point that you didn't want to leave! I will of course ensure that your extremely kind words are shared with the ward and the team who looked after you and I know that they will be very grateful to know that their care has made such a difference to you.

Thank you once again for sharing your story with us and I hope that your health continues to improve and that your aftercare continues to be as good as the care you received whilst you were an inpatient with us.

Kind regards

Peter Hare

Patient Liaison Manager
