"Friendly people but utterly disorganised and..."

About: Lakeside Healthcare Stamford

There's good and bad when it comes to my experiences with Sheepmarket...

I was previously registered with The Little Surgery in Stamford - a small surgery with two full-time GPs and a walk-in service where you could ALWAYS get to see a GP on the same morning you had a problem.

Alas, that wonderful surgery (a proper jewel of the NHS) closed and many patients were moved to the Sheepmarket surgery.

The GPs are friendly and accommodating, but obviously overworked, like much of the NHS.

The nurses and support staff also.

But the organisation and admin can be utterly chaotic - prescriptions not being sorted, not being done on time, being given appointments to see the wrong person.

Notes being taken on pencil and paper and not being followed up. Their 24-hour blood pressure machine was broken. And there always seems to be a delay on your appointment when you do get one. One morning I had an 0850 appointment, yet wasn't seen until 10am. I'm not even sure how that's possible!

My consultant has been sending letters to my GP about my treatment that the GP doesn't seem to be seeing. I'm not sure those letters are on my file.

Generally, to get a non-emergency appointment you have to wait a few days, which I guess is standard now.

That said, my partner had a serious problem recently and was seen the same day in an emergency appointment, so it is possible and there can be a decent triage service. She had a good experience.

The problem is, it's all so inconsistent...

I have the utmost respect for the NHS and staff that work within it, they've saved my life before, so I hate moaning. But I think some simple admin reforms and organisation would see Sheepmarket transformed from - at times - chaotic to a surgery we can be proud of.

My advice to anyone wanting to join would be, to an extent, take things into your own hands: ie, keep chasing, be persistent. That's how I got a referral to my current consultant, who's amazing. If I hadn't found him myself and repeatedly insisted on a referral, I probably wouldn't be here now.

Thank you for your feedback.

I am very sorry to hear about some of the recent problems that you have experienced and how you have been left feeling following your transition from The Little Surgery.

I would welcome the opportunity to talk through your concerns in person and would be happy to meet if you feel that this would be beneficial.

If you would like me to arrange this, please drop me an email at simon.stitson@nhs.net.

Looking at some of the concerns that you have raised, you mention our appointment systems and availability.

As you mentioned, we offer a Same Day Service which is designed to support patients with more urgent or acute medical needs which might need help or advice before the next routine appointment is available.

This service supports up to 300 patients a day and operates between 08:00am and 18:30pm, Monday to Friday.

Alongside this we offer routine nurse and GP appointments (including late night Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturday mornings) at both of our sites.

Our teams will offer the next available appointment with your chosen clinician or the first available appointment within the Practice.

We receive most of our consultant letters electronically from your hospital or consultant.

All letters are reviewed so that any new diagnoses can be added to your record and any medication initiations or changes can be updated by our Pharmacist.

All letters are then saved onto your medical record and can be accessed by your GP to help us manage your ongoing care.

I am sorry to hear that one of our equipment items was not working when you visited us and hope that we were able to rearrange your appointment for you without too much disruption.

I am sorry to hear that we were also running late when you visited.

As a team, we do work hard to ensure that our clinics run as close to time as possible but sometimes our patients need additional time and I am sorry for any delays that you experienced.

Many Thanks

Simon
