I attended Forth Valley NHS Royal Hospital today for a procedure which involved curettage and cautery of a lesion on my central scalp and excision of a lesion on my frontal scalp.
I was nervous in anticipation of the procedure not really knowing exactly what would happen. I had learned that any operation to the head was at least sensitive as the head is such a vulnerable area.
Those who attended me were Nurses Kirsty and Mary.
I was taken immediately on arrival at Ambulatory Care, on arrival a few minutes after 9am my appointment time. I found myself in confident and capable hands. I was impressed with the authority of the Staff Nurse but also her attention to detail and her reassuring manner.
The procedure was explained to me carefully so that I fully understood what was involved. I was put at ease in so far that it is possible to be at ease in such circumstances and the whole procedure was carried out quickly and carefully and most importantly very professionally.
It left me with a real sense of gratitude for the NHS- an institution that it is worth fighting for to keep it running in such a professional manner.
I have suffered from a number of ailments in the last few years. I have had a heart attack, I have had a circumcision and now I have had treatment for skin cancer on my head. In all these episodes I have found the treatment that I have received has been excellent. Indeed fantastic. And I am not given to exaggeration. I am in no doubt that we are lucky in Scotland and in the UK to have the benefit of well trained and dedicated professionals at the front line in our health service, who in the way they go about their business are caring competent and if anything understated. I am proud that we have such wonderful people serving our community and long may it continue.
In my own particular case today I left the Hospital reassured that I had received good treatment and impressed by the dedication comfort and reassurance given to me by Kirsty and Mary. A big thank you to them both!
