"Judged by a receptionist"

About: Aberdeen Royal Infirmary / Emergency Medicine

(as a service user),

I had attended A&E during having a mental health crisis. It was a little bit busy which, fair enough, I'd kind of expected. To be judged by a receptionist however, not their place and certainly not their job.

They have no right to judge what comes through that door, in any case. I know I am fairly regularly in A&E at times, I have to trust them. It's not ideal but, when I have a crisis and can't cope, where else do you suggest?

As much as I appreciate I am entirely responsible for my own actions, your receptionists did not help the situation last night. A&E panics me enough, I don't need to be judged before I've even got through the door.

Dear AberdeenAngel

I am sorry to read that whilst attending The Emergency Department you felt as if the receptionist was passing judgment of you. The reception team is the first point of contact for many patients attending the department with all kinds of health issues including patients who are suffering from mental health issues and they strive to do this as sensitively as possible for all patients. I will of share your story with the team.

Kind Regard

Kerry
