What I liked
Peter has Down's syndrome which makes it difficult to understand his treatment. He had never had surgery before and was quite anxious. However he was treated with such kindness, patience and care by the staff that he was able to cope very well. The post-op staff (ward 19) were excellent. The on call doctor had to see Peter twice and arrived very quickly and was very kind and reassuring. I was impressed by the respect Peter was given by the staff - even though he was unable to answer many questions for himself they were always addressed to him, and he was fully included in decisions about his discharge from hospital. As Peter's carer I was grateful that I was allowed to be with him as much as possible, and I felt that my position and my views were totally respected. All the staff we met (Ward 4, the operating theatre and ward 19) worked very well as teams. There was a very good mixture of professionalism within a relaxed atmosphere which made the situation much easier for all of us. We are very grateful and would like the staff to know how much they are appreciated.
"Excellent care from friendly, caring and efficient..."
