"Exceptional help with my son with special needs."

About: Lister Hospital / Accident and emergency

I visited the Childrens Energency Department this week eiyh my son. He had a suspecred broken wrist and thought ut was better to be safe than sorry and getot checked out. My son, who has Autism and ADHD was traumatized by the time we got to the hospital from school. The staff were amazing at helping me to keep things as stress free as possible for him. They could also see i was on my own with him and my 3 year old daughter who is a bit of a handful at the best of times. When we arrived at reception, the receptionist was consoling my son explaining that the Childrens ED was very nice and they would look after him well and they did just that!

We got into the Childrens ED and it was busy with plenty of other children and parents. My son was noticably stressed and i explained to the receptionist about him being special needs and promptly found us somewhere quiet to sit and wait to be seen which was extremely helpful. After a few mins my son was in a bit of a state and to help speed up the process even before triage, the ED doctor sent us through to X-ray as he knew the background of why my son was there.

As i couldnt go into the Xray room with my son as i had my daughter with me, the team in there comforted him until he was brave enough to go in with them.

It was also done very quickly to keep the process moving. Also while we were waiting in there, akind lady came to chat to my son about computer games as she could see i waa upset. This helped alot! I didnt get her name but thank you!

We then returned to the ED and the sister came to find us in our quiet area, to make sure my son was comfortable. She gave him some painkillers which soon helped and he became alot more comfortable and he began to relax.

The ED doctor later told my son that he hadnt broken his wrist but did have a nasty sprain.

The whole situation was made incredibly easy with the help from all of the staff in the Childrens Emergency Department and i couldnt be more grateful. Thank you all so much.

Thank you for your review. We're very pleased to hear that our children's emergency department team looked after your son well during his visit and we hope that his wrist is now on the mend. We'll pass your feedback on to the team, who will be pleased to hear from you.
