"My experience with Maternity"

About: Lister Hospital / Maternity

I cannot praise Lister's maternity unit enough, this includes triage, darce and Gloucester ward, CLU and recovery. I had quite a few visits to triage over the period of my pregnancy and I always felt very welcome and that I wasn't wasting anyone's time! The weekend before my daughter was born I arrived on the Saturday evening after being told to return from the morning and the staff were very efficient and I was seen immediately. A few hours passed and me and my partner were offered drinks and snacks. The staff kept me up to date and it then became early hours Sunday morning and me and my partner were provided with a room with two beds to sleep in, absolutely amazing service! It came to the morning and I was informed I was being admitted to darce Ward and I arrived and the staff were very friendly and informed me about the care I would be provided. I was provided with good food choices, plenty of fluids, reassured about myself and my baby and up to date observations. Very late Sunday night I was informed I was going to be induced - the midwife on the night shift sat with me and explained everything, she ensured I rang for someone to support me through the induction process and was provided with answers to any questions. Once I began having contractions the midwives were amazing, I was alone due to it being early hours in the morning and they made sure I was made comfortable as possible. They provide me with a bath, calming words and advice on the best care through the process. Due to health complications for both me and my baby I was taken to CLU and once again the staff were absolutely 5 star. I was in so much pain but they ensured that I had support on route to the hospital. Due to the deterioration of both myself and baby's health a decision was made for a emergency c section to be made. It was a scary situation as there was lots of doctors and midwifes in the room however they made myself and my partner feel that both me and baby were in the best hands. The c section went perfectivly, the theatre staff were so informative and caring. Once my baby was out she was struggling with her breathing but the midwives were working alongside her but also maintaining communication with me and my partner. This made us feel very relaxed and not to worry (our baby was just being lazy). In recovery they showed so much kindness and me, my partner and mum were all offered breaskfast and drinks. We were continuously provided with up to date information about the next steps. Once arriving on Gloucester ward every staff member that made contact with me and my family were so professional, empowering and friendly. Thank you very much Lister Maternity.
