"My experience at the ENT Dept, Pilgrim Hospital, Boston"

About: Pilgrim Hospital / Ear, Nose and Throat

(as the patient),

Having suffered from severe doctor/hospital phobia all my life (and I am now 75 years of age), I was terrified when referred to the ENT department for treatment of an ongoing ear infection/deafness.   The staff, from the consultant down to the reception staff were very understanding and did their utmost to put me at my ease. The infection was investigated and treated, unfortunately it came back and I had another course of treatment. Everything was explained to me at every stage and I was always asked for my consent before anything was done to me. After a few appointments, I began to feel more at ease and by my last appointment I was amazed that I could approach the hospital and the department with only mild anxiety - no panic attacks etc, no diarrhoea all the day before. Amazing and I cannot thank the wonderful staff enough. I have a follow up appointment next week and am almost looking forward to seeing my "friends" in ENT!

Dear Pearlyshirl,

Thank you so much for taking the time to post such lovely feedback on the Care Opinion website regarding Pilgrim’s ENT clinic.

Our staff are fully committed to improving patient experience. We understand that coming into a hospital can be a frightening time, and it is reassuring to hear that you were given the time and understanding to put you at ease. It is also great to hear that everything was fully explained to you, as we know that too can help allay anxieties.

I will pass your comments on to the team, who will be delighted to know that your experience has been so positive.

With Kind regards,

Bev Duncan,

Interim Matron for Outpatient areas, Pilgrim Hospital
