Having suffered from severe doctor/hospital phobia all my life (and I am now 75 years of age), I was terrified when referred to the ENT department for treatment of an ongoing ear infection/deafness. The staff, from the consultant down to the reception staff were very understanding and did their utmost to put me at my ease. The infection was investigated and treated, unfortunately it came back and I had another course of treatment. Everything was explained to me at every stage and I was always asked for my consent before anything was done to me. After a few appointments, I began to feel more at ease and by my last appointment I was amazed that I could approach the hospital and the department with only mild anxiety - no panic attacks etc, no diarrhoea all the day before. Amazing and I cannot thank the wonderful staff enough. I have a follow up appointment next week and am almost looking forward to seeing my "friends" in ENT!
