"Trip to A&E majors, MAU and William Harvey Ward"

About: Basildon University Hospital / Accident and emergency

I was admitted this week by ambulance to Basildon Hoapital.

We are fairly new to the area I was apprehensive of what the treatment and experience would entail.

I am difficult to please however, I must stress that every nurse, dr, consultant, health care assistant that i came into contact with were absolute stars.

I was treated well, I was looked after any request that I made was met and there was genuine care and compassion in every interaction that staff had with their patients.

Especially those that were elderly and vulnerable around me on William Harvey Ward.

Being is hospital is horrible and is never something that is enjoyed but I was made as comfortable as possible and staff did their best to make me smile when I was at my very worst.

I know that staff at the hospital are doing a job, but too often hospital staff do not get the recognition they deserve.

My only complaint was a male partner appeared to be living in a side room adjacent to where I was staying.

I can understand that discretion has to be used if someone is extremely poorly etc - but this was not the case.

The said couple used the room like a holiday rental and would disappear in the evening and return late at night once everyone was asleep then put the tv on so everyone could hear it and at times argue.

I didn’t raise this till I was discharged as I was too poorly to complain.

I do not blame the Ward staff but there should be procedures is place to stop patients using the Ward as a holiday rental.

On reflection I would challenge this arrangement as I am not comfortable with a male stranger sleeping in close proximity to me or other very vulnerable elderly paitients whom at their weakest are not able to tell them

Firstly may we apologise that our response did not appear on this site at the time you posted your comments.

Please be assured that your comments were forwarded to the relevant senior teams.

We are pleased to hear that you were happy with the care and treatment you received and staff involved in your care will be made aware of your kind words.

We do wish you had raised with staff during your stay your concern about the couple in a side room as staff would have addressed this at the time, however we do understand that you felt too poorly to do so.

We are sorry that after a positive experience of care, that this element of your stay was a concern for you and other patients.

The relevant senior team will address your concerns with staff on the ward to ensure patients on the ward are not disturbed/affected in this way.

Thank you again for your feedback, as it is important to help us improve services to ensure a positive experience for all our patients.

May we take this opportunity to wish you all the very best for your future good health.
