What I liked
My consultant ended up being brilliant! I never doubted her expertise. She was one in a million! She allowed me to have this under a general in the end and I honestly cant thank her enough! On the day she talked me through everything and made me comfortable with something I was terrified of. The staff-every single person who cared for me in TAU, recovery and in theatre was exceptional! Caring, professional and showing dignity for all patients. A real credit to Hallamshire! (Wish I could remember each name, they all deserve recognition) I must note that I am American and am used to private healthcare. Hallamshire exceeded my expectations! Incredibly clean, efficient and God forbid anyone ever have to undergo what I did, I would say put your trust in the staff at Hallamshire! I cant thank them enough.
What could be improved
My initial experience in the department was not positive. I had a lack of information and felt like I was being pushed through a process that was generic with real fear. If I had not refused treatment the first visit until I had the chance to research what was being asked to be done to me I would have been in a real mess! Hysteroscopy is embarrassing and frightening! Its not routine to the patient! There was a real lack of information and honesty about just how difficult this procedure canI be on some women. I was only offered general anaesthetic after I freaked out before I was due to have it done with nothing! So glad I held out! Inform women better about hysteroscopy and biopsy. Its not a walk in the park for everyone and Id never even heard of it before being told I was to have one. Not everyone would have been brave enough..or chicken enough to hold out and research it first. One- two page booklet doesnt cut it! Offer women options on anaesthetic! Heck, just offer it.
"On the day, outstanding care!"
