"Staff wonderful bar regulations, Hope building..."

About: Salford Royal

What I liked

Staff in H4 in the Hope Building were wonderful, can't fault them would like to mention them all by name. They have a problem with lack of familiarisation in the new building due no fault of their own and are subject to some bad patient care regulations.

What could be improved

Major nightmare with the staff not being able to administer pain relief for two hours when I was in acute distress. This is totally unacceptable and a complaint has been placed with PALS, no feedback yet. Maybe fear of litigation is taking precedence over patient care but I blame the system not the staff.

What is the nonsense with a major lack of signs in the new building. Surely Balfour Beatty should not be dictating this vital requirement?

Why is reception right at the bottom of the entrance?

Why haven't all staff, in particular porters, been given familiarisation tours of the Hope Building? The poor guys had a real struggle to get from there to the CT scan unit although the trip was interesting and eventful this is embarrassing for them. Seems like the rush to get the place open has overtaken the need to let the staff be trained in routes.

Thank you for taking the time to feed back on your experiences with us. I am sorry to read that you were unhappy with a number of aspects and hope that these have been addressed through PALS.

The Hope Building was handed over to the Trust at the beginning of September and departments were moved in over the course of that month. There has been signage present throughout the building since it opened to the public. All staff were given access to information about the building including wayfinding and key groups of staff including porters, the resuscitation teams etc. were given opportunity for familiarisation.

The reception in the Hope Building is situated adjacent to what will shortly be the main entrance from the visitors car park which will open next year in the final phase of redevelopment.
