"Day stay on children’s Tropical Lagoon ward"

About: Queen's Hospital (Romford)

After calling 111 following my 2 year old daughter losing a pea up her nose we were advised to head to a&e at Queens Romford.

We arrived at 8am on Sunday June 24th, we saw the triage nurse very quickly but had a longer wait to see the doctor, understandable as we were not an emergency.

The doctors informed us of the possibilities as to where the pea could be and the procedures involved, we made our decision to investigate which meant admittance, a general anaesthetic and various cameras. Both doctors were clear and made the decision process easy.

Once admitted to the Tropical Lagoon ward we were given the choice of a bed or cot and allowed to play with the toys in the playroom, outside area and sensory room, all of which my daughter loved.

All staff were friendly and helpful and the ward was very clean.

My daughter was nil by mouth and the nurse looking after her was very aware of this making phone calls to the ENT dept to hurry them along as she didn’t want my daughter distressed being hungry or thirsty, this made us feel very cared for and was very appreciated!

The same nurse also kept a sandwich and drink for us, brilliant!

The nurse that then took over on the night shift was polite, courteous and helpful ensuring we were discharged even though it was late in the evening.

The anaesthetist was fabulous and made it clear what would happen, giving me the opportunity to practice breathing with my daughter so she wasn’t frightened.

The theatre team were great, ensuring my daughter wasn’t frightened and I was informed.

I can only hope we will not require the services of the entire team again but will be happy to entrust my child in their care.

Thank you all very much!

PS - also gave birth to both my children at Queens at couldn’t fault my care.

Thank you for taking the time to make us aware of your experience, I am delighted to hear that you felt that the care your daughter received was so good and that all the staff were friendly and helpful.

I will ensure your feedback is passed onto the team so that they are aware of what a fantastic job they are all doing and what a difference they are making. Once again, thank you so much for taking the time to provide us with your feedback.

Kind Regards
