"Absolutely horrific service"

About: Great Barford Surgery

I have been registered (I say this loosely) to this practice for the past 20 years of my life, of which I very rarely see the doctor. I only really visit now for my repeat prescription and the occasional chest infection probably once every 2/3 years ....

As a previous student I had to register at the university doctors whilst away to obtain my prescription. Correct me if I'm wrong but I don't think that's unreasonable as travelling over 150 miles to see a gp for a prescription was madness.

When I returned home for out of term summer break I was told to register as a temporary resident, which is fine, I understand that and completed the forms, however I did not expect to have to fill this out every time I went into the surgery because they kept mucking up my registration! Further to this I was so fed up I ask to just register back permanently and decided to just suck up the 150 mile travel to see a gp, and guess what they couldn't get that right either ! I have now been permantly registered for over 2 years and still when I go into the practise it comes up I'm not registered on the system and has now got as far as saying they can't give me a prescription because the system doesn't work! Last time the doctor kindly hand wrote me one which I had to take to a different chemist - fine, but I shouldn't have to do this every time!

Another family also has had the same problem! Went in and personally spoke to the nurse and reception team about booking a yellow feaver jab, had terrible trouble getting seen because he is a temporary resident however gets a confirmation text to confirm his appointment. Also gets a reminder text. Turns up to the surgery and they say A. They can't seem him because he hasn't booked an appointment B. Hes not registered and C. They haven't ordered any yellow feaver despite saying they would order it the day he walked in to book the appointment!

I could go on....

If you are looking to register here, DONT! It is a shambles of an establishment, the service is absolutely disgusting, staff are unfriendly, rude, disinterested and ignorant. They won't admit their mistakes (and I'm fully accepting people make mistakes, but they should seek to rectify them.... here they don't)!

I quite frankly had enough of the place and all the problems they've caused so I'm looking to finally move. The place has never been the same since the takeover which was some 8/9 years ago and is just going further and further downhill!

Unfortunately don't have anything good to say about the place anymore! Sorry but you need to clean up the attitude of your staff and quality of service

Temporary resident status is time limited - so you would be required to complete a temporary registration form each time you visited the surgery in the university holidays - that isn't mucking up a registration its how the NHS temporary residency works - it is designed so that those in need of medical can be seen for a period of 14 days or up to three months depending on the information supplied- For those residing in the area for longer than 3 months a permanent registration would be needed. I suspect the issue with the yellow fever vaccination was caused by the same problem - a temporary registration that run out hence deduction from the system. I can and will investigate this further if you feel my response is incorrect based on your individual case.
