I attended the day surgery centre for a routine procedure under general anaesthetic recently and was impressed with all aspects of my treatment and care.
This was my second procedure in twelve months.
On both occasions I was treated with dignity and professionalism at every stage of the process, from booking in, to receiving treatment and then being discharged.
All of the nursing staff seemed to understand and care that for most people, hospitals, needles, pain and loss of dignity are all out of our comfort zone. Staff seemed to be prepared to go that extra mile to ensure my comfort. One nurse in particular, whom I met on both of my admissions (she also cared for me during an emergency procedure that I under went some years ago) was particularly, friendly and re assuring at the time just before I was anesthetized. Our "banter" was a welcome distraction from the needles and medication being inserted into me at the time!
The consultant was brilliant.
Kind, understanding and totally professional. Thanks to him I have the same quality of life today as I did yesterday and we have a clear plan forward for my future treatment.
The after care was compassionate whilst at the same time necessarily proactive. These staff understand that asking a patient how he likes his tea is just as important to his recovery as taking regular obs and administering pain relief.
I am full of gratitude to the whole team of specialists who yesterday treated me as a person. I am sure that I am one of many hundreds that they deal with every week, I can say honestly that if they recieved the same care as I did the NHS is in very good hands.
Many thanks to all of the unsung heroes of Warwick day surgery centre.
