"Diabolically un-acceptable in this day and age."

About: Lings Bar Hospital

What I liked

The odd one or two members of the staff.

What could be improved

In a nut shell, everything.

The food is as bad as that at the QMC hospital. And laughable at the 'dietry content'

The staff's attitude.

Information that is passed on to the next of kin ie myself as her son as it is non existant unless I ask.

Do not bombard some one who is in so much pain from various ailments with information that they can not retain due to them being in said amount of pain.

Treat them like they would treat their own loved ones/family.

Dont wait until theres a problem or let it go on and on. The attitude seems to be, we'll sort it later or let someone else do it.

Too many people with too many fingers in the pot.

So many daytime staff, yet little night time staff......surely the night time is as important as the day time.

Dont shout, not everyne is deaf.

Don't talk to people like they are not there in front of you.

Anything else?

My mother is currently in this so called caring hospital. To say she is less than a number is an understatement. The only people that care are those that are not in a position to make a difference ie the ward help (not sure what their new titles would be these days).

My mother is so very special to me but in there only me and not the so called professionals that over see the rehabilitation of the patients.

In the case of age, my mother is only 66 where as on her ward she is the youngest (the oldest being 100 - and looking very well at that). Apart from some of the patients being slightly deaf, the staff seem to think by shouting at every one is the way to go. These people are old, not senile, stupid or full or dementia.

At one point my mother asked to go to the toilet, she was told to do it in the incontinence pad that she has to wear. Even though she argued that she did not want to do this, the reply was ' thats what they're there for'. It was not until she had to argue with the person that they unwittingly took her to the toilet.

Due to the absolute madness of making what staff there is there redundant, the NHS want's shooting with a sanity bullet. The staff do nothing but moan and moan at how bad everything is around the patients and family members. I appreciate where they are coming from, but at the end of the day my responsibility is my mother getting well to get her out of that place ASAP so she doesn't have to stay in one moment more.

I feel very strongly about this and to say this is only after her being in there for 6.5 days at this point with a possible 4/6 weeks stay :-(

I will leave it at the above as I can feel my blood boil just typing this.
