About: National Hospital for Neurology & Neurosurgery - Queen Square

What I liked

My first stay on lady Ann Allerton ward. A series of mix ups had occurred which was not anyone's fault left me in a corridor waiting for a bed. It was seven hours before I finally got into a bed and not once did anyone offer me a drink, anything to eat or even a rubbish bag to put my disposable contact lenses in.

There is something seriously wrong on this ward, staff openly moaning about other patients, rudeness towards a patient who had the audacity to ask for cutlery and broken lockers, no call bell and night staff desperate to sit down at the earliest opportunity .

As a nurse, I am loathe to criticise my own profession but the medics here are excellent and were it not for them I would never come back .

Victor Horseley ward is so much better run, it has to come from the top and Lady Ann Allerton is not a nice place to be.

What could be improved

Staff training/changes. Stop treating patients as an inconvenience in your social activities. One poor staff nurse was there two and a half hours after her shift finished while others did the bare minimum.

Medicine lockers need fixing as do call bells, just set higher standards, not hard on that ward.

Anything else?

This hospital is in my opinion medically excellent and I think that my consultant is brilliant in his work but also kind, warm and speaks to everyone with respect. He has no ego and I would follow him to the ends of the earth to get him to treat me.

Other general comments

Lift been broken for nearly two months

Very rude staff who serve food

Cleaning staff who dust the curtain rails whilst patients sat in bed underneath ( I have a hospital acquired infection) collecting the dust that fell. My locker was never wiped down in two lots of two

week stays. The usual, rude ward receptionists,. Porters lovely generally!

Thank you for taking the time to feedback your comments. We are sorry that your experience fell below the standard we would expect to deliver and your comments regarding the ward have been passed to the senior nurses so that the issues can be addressed. We also apologise that the lifts have been out of action and they are currently being repaired.
