"Monklands Fertility Services"

About: University Hospital Monklands / Gynaecology

(as a service user),

My husband I and I attended our first appointment at the fertility service yesterday. We were both very impressed with the service we received.

As we were unable to make the original appointment due to a holiday commitment, we contacted the unit and were offered a cancellation, thank you so much for this. We had been anxious that being unable to attend may mean a long wait for another appointment so offering us the cancellation was much appreciated.

Prior to our appointment we were sent information about what to expect, what was required in terms of information from ourselves etc. It was easy to read and most informative. Without it, it could have been daunting to turn up and have to undergo examination without this prior information.

When we first arrived we were approached by a member of admin staff and offered directions, this may seem like a small thing but it was much appreciated and done in such a kind manner.

The receptionist in the clinic was welcoming and provided us with further written information, the waiting area is immaculate and very comfortable.

I know that you do not wish us to name individual staff through this website but I was so impressed with our nurse I would like this to be passed onto her, therefore, I am happy to provide the details of our appointment to allow you to do so- 06/06/18 10:50am.

Our nurse was in a word-amazing. This is a process we had never thought we would have to go through (perhaps naively) but she was warm, friendly, incredibly knowledgeable and so informative.

She dealt with having to carry out intimate examinations and ask what can be probing questions in the most professional but person centred manner. She really put both my husband and I at ease. The comment we kept making to each other was "she was lovely".

However, it is not only the quality of the staff which must be commended but also the way the service is run. We were advised what further tests we would need, bloods were taken in the phlebotomy department immediately after our appointment and arrangements were made for further tests. We were given clear information about what the next steps in the process would involve and the timescales associated with this.

I have never had a medical appointment where I have not felt that I had to ask additional questions to get the information I needed, until yesterday. This is a real skill being able to give enough information without overloading the patient and really must be commended.

In summary, thank you for making our first clinic appointment so pleasant and for making us feel so confident in a service we look forward to interacting with further in the future.
