"Finished and out-hooray"

About: Southmead Hospital / Trauma and orthopaedics

I had knee surgery just yesterday and although it was very complex they recognised I was doing well and released me.

I was frustrated not to have been seen by the physio's the afternoon after surgery. My consultant wanted me up and moving but I was stuck using bed pans all night as I wasn't allowed out of bed until physio had seen me.

I was also disturbed by the pictures on the wall in this ward. People running and looking seriouslydisturbed whilst doing so. This did not fill me with hope and felt more patronising than anything! Covered the man's face with a helium balloon. I haven't been able to run in years and may not ever be able to run again (i'm 24) if you have compassion please remove these photos.

The staff were wonderful and the building itself was absolutely fantastic. I had a room to myself which made a huge difference at night! There was one ward Dr that cheered me up no end and it was wonderful to meet her-I only wish I could remember her name. She came in shortly after I was told I was not allowed out of bed until the next morning and managed to make me laugh-makes all the difference.

Fabulous hospital but communication between different staffing teams (physio and surgeons and nurses) could be improved at times. Overall very positive.

Dear Nicnacaustin.

I am sorry to hear that you were not seen by a physiotherapist as quickly as you had been told you would be by your consultant, and that you found the artwork on the ward not to your liking.

Please be assured this information has been fed back to the relevant departments for them to be aware of your comments.

I am sorry that the communication between the nursing and physiotherapy teams were not as it should be.

It was pleasing to go on and read that you were seen by a doctor who provided you with a more positive experience.

Please accept my very best wishes for your continuing recovery and thank you again for your comments, which I confirm have been shared with the relevant departments.

Yours sincerely, Sue Needs, Deputy Advice & Complaints Team Manager.
