What I liked
The hospital seemed to be clean. A couple of the nurses were good.
What could be improved
Communication between the staff/different departments. Administration of pain medication, patient care.
Anything else?
My 73 year old dad was admitted to the LRI due to effects from the cancer he had. At first they didn't want to admit him-he had classic stroke/brain tumour symptoms so we rang them and they said there was no need to go to hospital as "prostate cancer doesn't spread to the brain" (it does and it had done). Finally he was admitted and he came out far worse than he went in there. He went in able to walk slowly, he came out barely able to walk at all or even stand and he was only in for a week and a half.
They put him through agony taking his blood pressure unnecessarily (they held his head down to take his blood pressure and this was excruciatingly painful for him as he had cancer all up his spine and could no longer lie his head down). He was begging them to stop but they didn't, he had no pain killers.
They let him develop a very bad bed sore. They were meant to give him pain killers before he went for a scan- but they never gave him any painkillers at all for the scan (probably due to lack of communication between nurses/doctors). He was in agony for 20 minutes whilst having the scan. Every day they said he was coming out the next day and then they changed their minds and completely messed us about for a week and a half. They didn't do anything to help him, I don't think they even knew what was wrong with him-they hadn't communicated with the cancer ward at all so had no clue how to treat him. It was a complete waste of time him being in there.
I will never go to this hospital again, I only wish I'd fought harder for my dad to get better care and shouted at them as it's the only language these people seem to understand. No compassion, no communication, they just don't care. Very shocking and disappointing, I can't express how angry I am at the treatment my dad received at this hospital.
"Avoid this hospital like the plague"
