"Just terrible"

About: Birchington Medical Centre

On the one hand I feel sorry for this surgery because everyone complains about the service they receive from them. I do not envy their job at all especially as I've been a receptionist in a health care setting so I do understand just how soul crushing it can be.

On the other hand though the service that I have received repeatedly for about the last 20 years has been disappointing.

The latest being that I have had to wait about 7 weeks for the result of a test which I was told would take only about 4 weeks to receive. I do understand that this is NHS and there are many other more important things for the surgery to deal with but the way it was handled was very poor.

When I finally got through on the phone I was told by the receptionist that the member of staff who deals with the test results would maybe be in the following day and that there was no way I could know the results that day, I would have to speak to them. Fair enough.

The next day I called the receptionist I spoke to first of all told me that I speak too fast and that they couldn't understand what I was saying but then was able to just click onto my file to tell me the results, which I found slightly odd as I was told the previous day that I had to be put through to a member of staff who dealt with the results?? The receptionist then when onto tell me that the test was a failure and it had to be repeated in 3 months......when were they going to contact me and tell me this?

I couldn't even book the test in for 3 months time either as its too far into the future.

Dear Patient.

Thank you for your feedback, however, I would be most grateful if you could contact myself directly at birchingtonmcpm@nhs.net or by telephone so I can look into this for you.

Based on what you describe, your results were looked at between your two contacts with the surgery, and the clinician who has viewed your results as requested a repeat.

With regard to the booking of a follow-up test in 3 months time, we do not have our clinics set up for that far ahead, which is the same for most GP surgeries.

I would be very happy to look into this for you further if you can make contact in person with me directly.

Many thanks

Hannah Price

Practice Manager
