What I liked
Admitted with SSRI withdrawal symptoms, which is when antidepressant medication is withdrawn and replace by a different acting drug, the treatment by the Doctors was magnificent and while they were not specialists in mental health they liased well with Consultants who did unerstand the syndrome and were quick to act, sadly due to ignorance of the symptoms several nurses on Ward 8 were unable and unwilling to act on the Doctors instructions
What could be improved
Genral nursing staff are in general ignorant of mental health issues and seemed totally unable to distinguish between patients suffering from withdrawal from a prescribed drug and withdrawal from illegal narcotics..the nurses on Ward 8 treated me like a drug addict and were cruelly unsupportive, they twice ignored me when I buzzed for help and took nearly an hour to supply me with medication the Doctor had instructed to give me immediatly, they also locked away the drugs I needed to modwrate my symptoms after I'd taken 35mg, according to my Mental Health team that usually treat me this is a safe dose and I could have had more to ease my symptoms, you cannot overdose on these drugs, the staff would not accept this
The staff on Ward 5 wdere excellent, Ward 8 however proved a harrowing experience, before admission I had weaned myself off alcohol and my depression was generally improving..I've now lost interest in life altogether, feel suicidal and have since being discharged drank 4 bottles of strong Cider to cope with the trauma of my mistreatment by Ward 8 staff, this has badly affected my trust in the NHS
"Frightening, I will never agree to be admitted to..."
