What I liked
Before i had my baby, everyone i came into contact with was so friendly, helpful, calming & professionnal, everyone - from the midwife that greeeted me into the delivery suite on my arrival up to and including all of the staff who were involved in my c-section! I was extremely nervous, never having had a baby before let alone never having been to hospital before. They helped to re-assure me all the way through and were really patient because I was scared. I couldn't fault them at all - a huge thank you to all of them! Also a huge thank you to the student midwives on the postnatal ward they were so helpful!
What could be improved
after I had the baby I was left to get on with it - the Obs room was great but I was moved to postnatal at 11 o'clock that evening. Once on the postnatal ward, I found the student midwives absolutely fantastic, so helpful but the other midwives made me feel like I was completely incompetant. When patients rang the buzzers in the night it took approx 5-10 minutes for someone to respond. I was close to the staff room & knew that there were staff in there but were not quick to respond to the call buttons. at one stage my baby was struggling to breathe but I couldn't get out of bed due to the operation. I presssed the call button several times, in the end the lady in the bed next to me sent her husband to go & get a midwife. The baby was fine but being my first I panicked. I felt like i was wasting their time whenever I pressed the button or asked them a question. they didnt seem to have a lot of patience with anyone.
Disappointing that also there was a disagreement between staff & it led to one member having to change a bed opposite me and because she wasn't happy about having to do it, she was banging everything, which disturbed the mums & babies in the room and I also didn't think it was appropriate to argue infront of patients.
"brilliant care before baby, disapointing care..."
