My husband visited this department for a blood transfusion. We arrived at 8.45am and booked in, we waited over two hours before anyone came near us. We were advised that the treatment would take in total five hours.
We had thought when we arrived that we would be able to leave the hospital by 3pm at the latest, but as it transpired he was not connected up till 2pm. The treatment was sped up to take approximately three hours, which was not ideal.
We finally left at 5.45.
I realise that the NHS is desperately short of money and the department was short staffed, but it is pointless telling all the patients to arrive at 9am and forcing everyone to wait such a long time for treatment.
This should be looked into and a better system must be implemented.
