What I liked
I had shoulder surgery last year at the AOC, the op went well but I had to be kept in overnight due to not reacting to well the the anaesthetic. I felt very sick and the night HCA was really nice. After being quite poorly the 2nd time, she suggested bringing me some toast to help settle my tummy. This was at 3 am.
The daytime nurses were pleasant and helpful trying to sort out pain medication.
What could be improved
The food. Bless the nice HCA, this is not aimed at the 3 am toast. but the lunchtime meal and the breakfast I had. I had 3 children in the past 15 years in this hospital and I must admit the food has not improved within this time.
Also I was given Codeine based pain medication post surgery which does not agree with me at all. This was recorded in my notes but this was not picked up by staff.
Please be more vigilant when reading notes.
Anything else?
I would particularly like to thank a nurse in the AOC outpatient department. During my post surgery check I was given a steroid injection into my other shoulder which also has problems. I felt very faint and this lovely nurse sat with me until I was better and made me completely feel at ease as I also felt very tearful due to my needle-phobia.
I am due to attend the outpatient department for the other shoulder. I am confident I will receive good care again.
"Mostly good things to be said about AOC"
