About: Northampton General Hospital (Acute)

What I liked

Speed of xray

Porters and cleaners were sentitive to patient condition, unlike nurses

What could be improved

Provision of non-saggy mattresses to spinal patients

Provision of non-misleading information to subsequent info request from GP

Basic physio advice on departure, not 'I can't give any advice'

Advice prior to departure on the degree of pain to be expected, and danger signs to watch out for

Correct recording of patient responses to tick box questionnaire

Basic tech support to read scans from another hospital which are easily readable on a basic PC

Regular checks and honest recording of toilet cleanliness

Providing patients with the food requested on menu list

Providing patients with food at all

Providing the advised amount of medication on discharge

Discharge procedure which considers patient ability to manage normal life, not 'it's Friday, we want you out'

Waiting time of less than 4 hours for medication on discharge

Brief OT discussion prior to discharge

Bed tables that can be moved without use of excessive force

Advice / action on prevention of pressure sores

Nurses not placing immovable furniture to block patient ability to stand from lying

Nurses not having loud and continuous discussion / argument from 12 - 2 a.m.

Having a degree of communication between fragmented departments

Medical staff moving wheelchairs in the xray area need to check whether patient's feet are raised, and to ensure brakes are on before leaving wheelchair

Nurses not holding corridor meetings which block access to patient toilets, expecting patients with mobility problems to manoeuvre past them

Anything else?

This hospital is entirely lacking in the most basic patient care.
