"Worst A&E experience, careless doctors and rude..."

About: North Middlesex Hospital / Accident and emergency

I have taken my mother to the A & E department on 14/4/2018.

After waiting about 3 hours, we have seen the doctor who prescribed her just painkillers for her condition however totally dismissed the fact that she should have been prescribed with the anti-viral medication as stated on NHS website. While we were waiting a very long time for the prescription to be issues, I tried to gain an attention of a nurse walking pass me who replied to me in a very rude, unacceptable behaviour yelling out “what do you want?” and walking off. I was shocked and didnt know what to do. Another patient who witnessed the nurse’s behaviour got up and made a complaint on our behalf.

Later that night I spoke to NHS direct followed by a call from a doctor who confirmed the medication should have been prescribed. An appt was booked at another hospital for her at midnight so another visit to see a doctor in order to be prescribed the medication within the timescales. Totally appalled with the treatment of the entire department and cannot express enough how their ignorance could have caused a long term or cronic side effects/ health problems to my mother. I will also make a complaint about the doctor involved in this matter.

Dear Sabrina

I would like to apologise for your mother’s treatment in our Emergency Department (ED).

We are one of the busiest Emergency Departments in London, however being rude or dismissive towards patients and their families is not something that we accept from any of our staff.

I would be grateful if you would contact Kerri or Karen in our Patient Advice & Liaison Service at northmid.pals@nhs.net with details of your mother’s name and date of birth,

I will then be able to investigate this further and will reply to you in detail.

Kind regards

Vinayak Bhandwalkar

Lead Emergency Nurse Practitioner
