What I liked
In one word I would rate Maternity Service as 'Exceptional'.
I was a bit scared initially after few horrible incidents in my local hospital. Hence I went to Darent Valley with some questions in my mind. I did not spend much time in the antenatal as I was near my due date. However, I had a positive experience during the short span (except one incident where I felt the consultant did not provide me the right information about elective c-section).
Just one day before my c-section, I had to go to maternity assessment unit where staff were very helpful and looked after me well. During my C-section, I was continuously monitored, was given all necessary information and cared very well. The midwife, who was looking after me was just brilliant. Then comes the most important part, which I was really scared of - Night staff. Darent valley night staff were very kind and helpful. Initially I was a bit worried to call them multiple times to lift my baby for feeding. So I tried to do it once on my own. However, the midwife explained me not to do this even if I feel OK and asked me to call them as many times as I want. If i remember correctly I called them at least 10 times for my baby, for pain-killers, water as I had a c-section (including two times when the buzzer went on by mistake while I was lying down) . Though I was feeling guilty for calling so many times every time the midwife came within 30 secs and dealt with my request happily. It was one of the best experience in my life and I was very pleased. I was given lots of pain-killers when I left the hospital. As I was 2nd time mum, I did not need much help in breast-feeding even though I was offered help.My overall experience was very pleasant. I was empowered to make my decisions, was offered help when I needed and I would highly recommend the hospital.
What could be improved
