"Thank-you ward 13"

About: Leighton Hospital

What I liked

My father at the age of 85 had been diagnosed with Cancer of the Oesphagus recently . When this was diagnosed it was a shock for him and his family as he had always been active and healthy. With the help of his macmillan nurse and doctors he decided that he would not have treatment as neither they and he didnt feel it was appropriate for his age.

After only 3 weeks after his diagnosis he had to go into hospital as he couldnt swallow. He went into Ward 13 where the staff were caring and professional but unfortunately the disease rapidly took a toll on his life and he died within 10 days .

In this time all the staff on Ward 13 were wonderful, they looked after my father and he said frequently how good they were and not just with him but with other patients on the ward. We were able to discuss our concerns with the doctors and nurses and they involved us the family in his care.

You always expect nurses to be professional for that is their job but the care they gave him and us, his family was exemplary and we felt that we would like this noted in these days where all you hear about NHS is bad news. Thank you to all on Ward 13

What could be improved

I don't think anything could have improved under the circumstances
