What I liked
antenatal care and midwife care during labour was good
What could be improved
Being allowed to travel to the hospital to be admitted to the labour ward took too long and was humiliating in that I had to beg and literally cry before the midwife on duty would agree to let us travel in. She literally said that since I was not screaming and crying I was obviously not in sufficient pain to warrant admission.
After the high-risk instrumental theatre birth we were kicked off the high-dependency unit and into the normal postnatal ward before my condition had improved enough but by the time somebody noticed there were no spaces on high dependency unit. As a consequence, important treatment was delayed by more than 24 hours.
Care on the postnatal ward was practically inexistent and, worse, the lack of appropriate support meant both my and my baby's health were seriously endangered. Again, we were discharged from the postnatal ward too early and, as a result, needed to be readmitted less than 24 hours later.
