What could be improved

We were called to say another blood test was required to check levels on something. Upon ringing the maternity unit it was apparently very important a blood test was performed and so we had to go to Treliske with a two year old in tow. It was suggested we wait for the results as this was very important.

Upon arriving at treliske my partners blood was taken in a dirty waiting room by someone not even wearing gloves to do it.

We were then told the results could be back tonight or maybe tomorrow......... with this we left to try and get little one back home and into bed at a reasonable time.

Not happy with the explanation given, we rang treliske again to be told that had we waited to see a doctor then this explanation could have been given. I asked the midwife what the doctor could tell us without the results infront of him and she told me that we 'could have waited' for the results and that we should have our priorities correct.

Personally I find this rude and disrespectful. It is now almost 10pm and still they haven't phoned with these results- thus meaning we could still be there waiting with a two year old child in a small waiting room to be seen.

If this test was so important you'd expect the results to be somewhat quicker than 'maybe today.... maybe tomorrow' and to expect us to wait around and tell us over the phone that our priorities aren't correct is disgusting. The midwifes attitude to the two year old still possibly being out at 10 or 11pm at night was " well other people have children".

Not acceptable but then again, this place that deprived my nan of food and water for a few days straight promising each day her operation and then telling her they couldn't perform it.

Anything else?

Perhaps also this midwife should understand that priorities include the care of a two year child who cannot look after herself. It appears that the midwife book only goes as far as pimple sized dot to two weeks old. Further training is required in this area.

Also perhaps suggest blood is taken in a more sterile environment than a dirty waiting room where countless people have sat, sneezed, coughed and who knows what else.
