"The Pain Management Department. Gateway G."

About: Circle-Nottingham NHS Treatment Centre

I first visited the Pain Management Department in 2015 when I first met the charming consultant, who has changed my life drastically making it more bearable from unbearable. Sadly I am unable to have the cortisone injections due to Lyme disease but am able to have lignocaine injections. These I have every three months. It takes a short time for the injection to start working but well worth it. The consultant always explains the procedure and allows both my carer or me to ask questions. The injection lasts approximately 2 and a half months. The two weeks or so until the next injection seems like an eternity but well worth the wait! I have always found the care to be the very best from arrival at Gateway G where we have a very short wait then called through to the ward. We are settled into a spacious cubicle. A nurse then checks my vitals, asks some questions and then the consultant arrives, with a broad smile dispersing any fears. Shortly thereafter I am wheeled through to the ward where the procedure takes place. I have very thin veins at best which seem to disappear at the sight of a needle but the consultant manages to gently insert the cannula without pain nor bruising. The consultant is a phenomenal treasure to the pain clinic. She has a wonderful assistant and every nurse I have had dealings with are efficient and always smiling. I actually look forward to my visits!

The only glitch has been with the appointments team who on the whole have been on top of my next appointment but on a few occasions my carer has had to telephone to remind them.

The Pain Management Department is a very much needed facility and runs like a well-oiled cog thanks to the Dr. and her kind as well as efficient hard working team.

An enormous "Thank You" to the consultant and her team. You are a wonderful group of human beings.
