"An excellent specialist trauma hospital."

About: University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire NHS Trust

After falling and breaking my leg really badly, I spent three weeks being cared for in Coventry University Hospital. I would like to say a huge 'THANK YOU' to all the amazing professionals from the ambulance crew, accident and emergency, doctors, nurses, surgeons, physiotherapists and all health care workers.

When I first arrived, I felt very scared, traumatised and was in excruciating pain but I was soon made to feel extremely safe knowing that everyone was working hard to help me on my road to recovery. I was well informed every step of the way of the procedures and treatment I would receive.

Everyone made me feel as comfortable as possible and were meticulous in their cleanliness to reduce any risk of infection.

My first week was spent on Ward 53 -

Orthopaedics - having been immediately sent to theatre where my leg was secured into an external fixation to temporarily stabilize my bones. All the staff here were so kind and nothing was too much trouble, even taking time to sit and hold my hand whilst I cried because I was missing the funeral of my dearest childhood friend.

After undergoing a full day of surgery with wonderful surgeons who explained everything fully and were extremely professional, I woke and was cared for in recovery by a lovely nurse who took the time to reassure me that all was well.

The second week was spent on the Plastics Ward 32 SR26. Having been well informed of the possible complications that occur with any surgery, I initially felt a little scared and apprehensive but all the nurses were just totally amazing and were so very meticulous in their cleanliness and sterilisation of all equipment during my constant care and the regular checking of my muscle graft.

Once everyone were happy with my progress, I spent my final week on Ward 52 - Orthopaedics where the nurses changed my dressings and the excellent physio team got to work on helping me with my mobility.

My accident happened at a very difficult time as I was due to be moving house to Northumberland, but thanks to every professional involved in caring for me, I was able to leave hospital on a Sunday and move with my family on the Monday.

The communication and transfer of my care to Newcastle has been excellent and I continue to make brilliant progress.

I will never forget the care and kindness I have been shown.

Many, many thanks

Terry C-W
