"No help or support after miscarriages"

About: The James Cook University Hospital / Gynaecology

(as the patient),

Twice in the last six months we have suffered from a miscarriage and the lack of help or support from the hospital has been disgusting. We haven’t been passed any information of help and the second time the midwife hadn’t even bothered to look at past notes and even said oh so you have two children when we said it was the third pregnancy which meant floods of tears at the reminder we had just recently suffered a miscarriage.

We haven’t been offered any help or support and the waiting room we were left in after waiting 45 minutes only for us to go to reception to be told we weren’t on the system and didn’t have an appointment was not up to standard, hard, small and uncomfortable plastic chairs with a tile missing on the roof, a bed cover on the floor and a bucket collecting water. The first time, bloody tissues on the floor.

No offer of help or support or even suggestions of charities or support groups etc.

I'm so sorry to read about your experience, Miscarriage Sufferer.

Miscarriage can be such a distressing thing to go through in any circumstances, so having two in six months must be dreadful for you and your partner. It is very sad to read that you didn't receive the care, compassion and information that you needed and I do hope that your comment here changes things for the better.

In the meantime, please know that we are here to help should you want to get in touch.

Wishing you gentler times ahead

Ruth
