At 38 wks pregnant I needed to be admitted to AMH to be monitored as my baby was at risk if my waters broke at home. I felt a bit of a fraud as I was mobile, independent and just needed obs and put on the baby monitor (CTG) once a day but all the midwives were reassuring and ensured I wasn't a fraud.
This evidently became true at 38 wks & 6 days when my waters broke at 3am and there was quite a lot of waters. The midwife on that night was excellent, she attached me to the CTG machine, checked me over and contacted the registrar to come and review me.
After the reg reviewed me I was taken to recovery for close monitoring, they tried to rotate my baby twice but he was not shifting so a C-section it was that day. I was then reviewed on the morning rounds and a space was clear first thing so off I went to theatre. I can not fault any of the theatre staff, they were all super as was the anaesthetist who was very reassuring and talked me through everything that was happening very calmly.
After my baby was delivered I went back to recovery where I was cared for very well and they tried to help me breastfeed, they fed me and gave me a freshen up. The care was fabulous.
I was then transferred to the ward and was monitored well as was my baby, they helped me to try and breastfeed and gave me different tips and devices to try and feed my baby. The staff at night especially tried to help me. In the end I went onto bottles when I got home but I can not fault the midwives and care assistants for trying to help me to breast feed. My second day on the ward my baby got various checks and people coming in with different information and packs. My c-section was checked and monitored and I was looked after very well.
On day 3 was able to be discharged and everything went pretty smoothly considering the ward was incredibly busy, they were very short on midwives and the place was going like a fair.
I would like to thank all the healthcare assistants for their help, for ensuring we got fed 3 times a day and for everything they did. I'm sorry I can't remember all your names.
For the midwives I would like to thank - Chelsea, Jo, Sophie, Kashsa, Eilidh, Megan and Amanda as they all cared for me while I was in Ashgrove ward, they were all absolutely outstanding, reassuring, knowledgeable and amazing with their care.
ST/N Claire W & Alyson- thank you.
The recovery nurses - Kelly and Nikki - thank you.
