The Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham is a very good hospital, and quite often exceptional.
My mother is over ninety years old and following a fall 5 years ago her leg was surgically repaired with the expertise of Consultants in the Orthopaedic Department.
Since then with the ongoing care and diligence of the Endocrine and Cardiology Departments, she has been able to live at home and has avoided falls and protracted in-patient stays (which had occurred repeatedly in the past) using specialist medication arranged by the hospital and monitored with blood tests through her GP and District Nurse.
The Endocrinology Department, Orthopaedics and Cardiology have worked together and been very helpful.

What makes a hospital exceptional?
My answer is that it is made exceptional by its staff, and importantly by all its staff of whatever grade or department having the same spirit to achieve the best in care.
My hope is that this spirit continues to shine and that the recent moves to improve pay and reach a settlement of long-term funding will support the morale and mission that is at the heart of the hospital, and so important to the outcomes of its patients and their families.
