"West Cornwall Treatment Centre"

About: Royal Cornwall Hospitals NHS Trust West Cornwall Hospital (Penzance)

(as the patient),

Just wanted to say a massive thank you to all the staff who were involved in mine and my sisters care. Having known from a young age we would develop cancer and watching our mum go through 3 operations we were terrified of going for tests and being in hospital. My first thank you must go to Denise, secretary to Mr May, who, understanding our delicate situation, sprung into action the moment I picked up the phone to say we were ready to go for screening. We were seen quickly and at West Cornwall hospital, away from the hustle and bustle of RCHT where we have both worked for many years. We had early morning appointments so we weren't worrying or over thinking the situation.   Upon arrival we were greeted by a lovely lady called Ali who had a big smile on her face, she talked us through each step of the procedure, keeping us well informed.

While waiting to go in, sat in my dressing gown and slippers they played music to take my mind off it. Entering the treatment room, Mr May made me feel reassured, kept me informed, explaining everything and even cracked a few jokes to lighten the mood - exactly what I needed! ! The procedure was over in a flash, and I was sent to recovery to come round with my sister. The staff were very attentive offering us tea and biscuits. When we were up and dressed, Mr May came out to see if we were ok, such a small gesture but it meant so much to us. It's been a long journey to get here and one which we will continue, this time safe in the knowledge its nothing to worry about and we have fantastic people looking after us who treated us as individuals, caring for us every single step of the way. You are a credit to the NHS. Thank you

Dear horologiumgh94

Thank you so much for taking the time to share your experience at West Cornwall Hospital. It is wonderful to hear that Denise and Mr May were both sensitive to you and your sister's circumstances and ensured you were seen as quickly as possible at West Cornwall rather than RCHT understanding that this would be more comfortable for you both.

I can fully appreciate how anxious and worried you both must have been having already watched your Mum go through her 3 operations and subsequent treatment. I am so pleased that all staff kept you well informed and helped you every step of the way. Reading about the care and compassion Mr May and his team provided is heart-warming; they recognised that every small part of the process counts, from the playing of music, humour, tea and biscuits to Mr May himself checking you were okay after your procedure.

I will be sharing your feedback, praise and thanks with all staff that would have contributed to your and your sister's care as I know they will be delighted to read it and thrilled they made this part of your journey a positive experience.

Thank you again and I hope that you and your sister continue to receive such wonderful care in the future.

With kind regards

Michaela Brewer, Patient & Family Experience Coordinator
