"Great hospital. Highly recommended."

About: King's College Hospital (Denmark Hill)

What I liked

I am a regular visitor to the Kings Haematology department as I suffer from CML. I am very pleased with the services that I get here at the hospital. Though some times the waiting time is long but the quality of care is good. Only issue though is the blood collection unit (not part of haematology) is a bit of a hit and miss. Some of the nurses there are either new are bored of doing their job. I need to provide about 3 to 5 vials of blood once a month and I find this is the most unplesant period of the visit. Some of the nurses are very good at it and take extreme care while they take blood samples but unfortunately some are clearly irritated about having to take 5 vials. I was once left bleeding because the nurse did not apply any preassure on the site of incision and let me go.

Some of the nurses seem to be very good at this they talk and make the patient feel comfortable, anyway I am not going to let this scar a great hospital.

Thanks all !!

What could be improved

Parking space needs improvement, too many people are trying to park and there are not much spaces available. It takes about 30 mins of queuing to enter the car park. The council need to wakeup and create some parking space around this hospital.

Thank you for your comments which relate primarily to the Phlebotomy (blood testing department). I will of course alert the manager to the experiences you have had with inconsistency of the skills of the phlebotomists within the department.

I am sorry that you have experienced lengthy wiats to enter the hospital car park. We do encourage local patients to travel by public transport because we have very good transport links and we recognise that we have limited capacity within our car park and continue to seek solutions to this continuing problem.
