My 13 year old son ,was recently admitted to Hairmyres hospital. He was in a great deal of pain when we presented at the A E department. After a short wait , he was examined . He was pyrexial with an acute abdomen. After discussion with RHC the decision was made to treat himr at Hairmyres. The A & E staff were wonderful at reassuring him and helping alleviate his pain. Promptly he had CT scan and was prepared for surgery. Mr Duncan performed a laparotomy and appendicectomy. As my son had perforated appendix he was taken to HDU. All theatre staff were excellent and my son had great care in HDU. When stable he was moved to Ward 4. In ward 4 , he had fabulous medical and nursing care. Staff were welcoming and let me stay with my son. Nothing was too much bother and staff were so lovely. At 13 , he was in an adult scary environment. All staff were fab . The young lady serving the meals was so kind to me .Always offered me a cup of tea and a friendly face. I was so grateful.
After a few day he was transferred to ward 6. In ward 6 we had amazing care by very kind nursing and medical staff. Despite the ward being very busy, nothing was too much bother for anyone. We had a single room and again I was made to feel welcome being resident with my son. The Nightshift were amazing and so comforting . Despite the trauma of bloods and Ng tubes they managed to keep him upbeat and comfortable. During the day Freda serving the meals was so so kind to him. What an amazing lady. Margaret and Kellie also were always so cheery and bright. I am a NHS employee and was so impressed by the care afforded to my son during his illness. Sometimes as staff members we can be critical but my son recieved 5 star care from all concerned. Happily he was discharged 6 days after being admitted. It had been a traumatic week but a week in which I had witnessed great care in your hospital. I will eternally be grateful to every cleaner, porter, nursing and medical staff that we came in contact with during our stay. Please pass on my thanks to them all. We will forever be in your gratitude.
