"Unfortunately very let down by this practice"

About: Larksfield Surgery Medical Partnership

I have been suffering with complicated long term health issues for many years, (disabling effects of a motorcycle accident with multiple fractures that led on to Ulcerative Colitus, which some time later required removal of my large bowel. Since then further complications, blood clot in my lung, abcess, then gall stones with a terribly messed up operation at the QE2 that caused Septicaemia and left me with a heart problem (SVT). This then needed ablation in 2015. Now I have kidney stones and an unexplained cough for several years that has given me numerous chest infections. To add to all this I have a severe back problem which, since December has become completely disabling. Despite everything I have stubbornly continued to work, running my own business from home and not giving in despite extreme difficulties. I feel I have had very little support from some of the Doctors (to be clear, not all, as some have been very kind to me). But I have often encountered a dismissive attitude on my visits making me feel like I am wasting my time.

They have vehemently refused to help me with my back problem, and I was extremely let down today when after 2 visits to AE and a letter from the AE doctor + Phsyio they refused to help me arrange a much needed MRI scan. Even telling me it is because their budget has been cut and various other complicated reasons which all seem to just be beating about the bush! I was then promised a phone call today which I needed to not only chase up on my scan but get my medicine adjusted as it was not helping with my pain. The call never came. I was then forced to use the out if hours service to get the much needed pain relief prescribed, as well as some advice. This is really very poor service.

As you can imagine I have many many appointments to attend due to my health. I once received a terribly rude and distressing letter from this surgery because I missed an appointment! In which they threatened to not see me anymore and was very very rude and unprofessional. I had missed the appointment due to being chronically ill at the time and was unable to cancel it in time. The letter was uncalled for and very upsetting.

I have been told by another doctor outside this practice that the cough I have needs further investigation. I have been unable to get this done, despite many visits to GPs at this surgery on the matter. A chest X-Ray was all.

I have also lost my consultant for my UC and was assured they would chase this up so I got my out patients appointment. Again this had not been done.

I was also supposed to be called in regarding new medication for my kidney stones, (via a letter from my consultant) but have not been contacted on this either.

I fully understand and appreciate the difficulties faced by the NHS but I feel very let down right now. I would love to be proved wrong but, presently, my faith that I will get the help I need is all but gone and this is only adding to my worries.

Dear Patient

Further to your comments.

I'm sorry to hear of your multiple concerns, but am unable to answer any of them without investigating.

If you wanted to kindly contact me at the surgery we could arrange a meeting where these issues can be addressed and you can get the help you need.

Mrs Amanda Harrington

Interim Practice Manager
