What I liked
All departments - Womens hospital, Oncology, surgery, Ward 7A, stroke unit, A&E all worked together seamlessly. The level of co-operation, compassion and care was remarkable. The staff from cleaners upwards were cheerful and clearly enjoy their work. The management is doing someting right!
What could be improved
The surgeon who carried out the ileostomy was not very efficient. The central incision was badly stitched and went septic. This was not picked up on the ward before discharge. It was left to the GP, who noticed a very unpleasant smell as soon as she came into the sickroom. District nurses (3 visits a week for several weeks) and a return visit to the surgeon eventually brought it under control. This is an incident which could have easily been avoided, but the ward was understaffed and overworked.
The food was best described as adequate. Could do better.
Anything else?
This report is on behalf of my wife
"An exceptionally good hospital"
