"Absolutely fantastic"

About: Lister Hospital

What I liked

Throughout my stay at the Lister I can honestly say that I could not have asked for better care than what I and my baby daughter received.

I came into the hospital at 7 months pregnant with abdominal pain but was not in labour. My daughter was born through emergency C -section and during the same surgery I had my spleen removed as it had ruptured. I was bleeding internally and lost 5 litres of blood.

All of the doctors, nurses, surgeons, midwives and support workesr involved in our care were absolutely fantastic. If it wasn't for the swift and prompt action of the obstetric doctors and the vascular surgeon, I would not be here to see my baby girl grow up, she may not have been here either.

The after care we received was also brilliant. The staff I encountered in all units were very friendly, helpful and supportive. Nothing was too much trouble and I was given excellent care, even when they were very busy and short staffed

The neo natal unit is an absolutrly wonderful place. All the staff are friendly and supportive and we were encouraged to be as involved with our little girl as much as we could. We were kept very well informed of her care and the staff were always happy to answer questions and help and support you with any of the care we needed to give.

I want to thank everyone once again for all they did for us. We had a really positive experience during our time there and our aftercare has also been great.

What could be improved

The food. I understand there is a lot of people to cater for and hospital food is notoriously poor, but better quality or fresher food would be most welcome

Every now and again you read a patient story that just reminds you what great care is available to so many patients. Sure things can go awry sometimes, but it seems that in your case everything that could have done, was done. And the proof, as you say, is that both you and your baby are here to tell us about your excellent experience. As we speak, your feedback is winging its way to the maternity team - we know they will be delighted to read what you have to say about the care provided to both of you.

As for the food - our catering team is always willing to come and meet with patients who have concerns about the food they prepare. Sometimes the problems can be resolved there and then, to everyone's satisfaction. While we appreciate that this advice can't be of assistance now, we hope that anyone else in our hospitals with issues about the food being served will ask the nursing staff to arrange for one of the catering managers to visit their ward.
