What I liked
I was admitted to the Emergency Assessment Unit after an overdose of prescription pills. The staff were kind, attentive, and I was impressed at how well the changeover between night and day shifts was handled, with the night nurse going through each patient's details with the day shift nurse. I have been treated in private facilities in South Africa where this did not happen.
The staff were dedicated, and interacted well with patients. Meal times were presented well, with both catering staff and the ward HCA helping to make mealtimes as comfortable as possible.
The doctor came for morning rounds promptly, and I was referred to the crisis team, who dealt with my case professionally and developed a plan for me to be visited at home for a short period.
I was admitted at a distressing time, but my staff on duty did everything they could to make me feel welcomed and comfortable. At a time where the NHS is under considerable stress, I was impressed by the staff's dedication and professionalism.
