"Very good care helping my recovery."

About: The Princess Royal Hospital (Telford)

What I liked

Admitted on the second day of my holiday in Shropshire, I was cared for in Ward 12 for 6 days. The care I received during my illness due to a kidney infection was excellent. All the staff were caring, kind and cheerful, even though they were extremely hard pressed to get the work done. I also saw many examples of excellect care and sympathy to other patients.

Praise as well for the ShropDoc out of hours GP service which admitted me to hospital in the first place. Also the staff of the Xray department who were so kind. And not forgetting the cheerful porters!

What could be improved

The night staff coped admirably but were very short staffed. I realise there are cuts to be made but maybe this was a step too far.

Anything else?

The liasing with my home hospital ready for my return home was well done. I had an appointment at my own hospital witing for me when we arrived home and a district nurse called at check my dressing on Bank Hol Monday.

Thank you so much for taking the time to provide comments about your stay on ward 12 and the care you received from the staff.

We aim to provide the highest standards of care every time for every patient, and we are pleased to hear that your experience matched our aspirations. We have passed a copy of your feedback to staff in the relevant departments (ward 12, x-ray department, portering staff).

The x-ray department manager has responded and was very appreciative of your comments and will feedback to the staff – she said it was a boost to morale.

Your comments about the staffing at night have been given to the Ward Manager and the Matron for Surgery at PRH.

If you think that any particular member of staff, or the whole team deserves special praise and recognition then please consider nominating them for the Chairman's Award. This special award is presented every two months at the Trust Board meeting.
